Botanical design studio

Design grown from the earth, not the shelf.

We design interiors, print and botanical gifts for people who want things that come back to the soil. Every project starts with a plant, a material and a hand that can hold the object.

From first sketch to finished object. Most projects begin with a single visit to the studio.

01, The studio

We are a small studio of four designers who work side by side with growers, weavers and potters. We choose materials that can be grown again, and we design the object so it stays in your hands for years instead of three seasons.

  1. 01

    Grown first

Every project starts with a plant, a fibre or a clay, and the object is designed to come back to the soil.

  2. 02

    Made to last

Objects are built for repair and reuse. We design the parts, not only the finish.

  3. 03

    Slow to ship

Nothing leaves the studio until the plant is planted and the object is in the hand.

02, The practice

Three ways we work

Most projects start as one of these three. Each one begins with a visit to the studio and ends with something you can hold in your hand.

Studio visits

Walk into the studio

Bring a photo of the room you want and we walk through the materials together. Most visits end with a material list and a date.

Material research

Chosen by hand

We test paper, clay and linen until the object feels like it came from the ground and not the shelf.

Garden design

Planted for the long run

We design beds that look good in the first year and still have something to say in the tenth.

05, Questions

Before you write

If your question is not here, the studio answers every email within two working days.

Most projects run six to ten weeks from first visit to delivery. We work in short stages, so you can see the object at every step rather than at the end.

Yes. We plant around what you already have and design the rest of the room to keep the light and the air you already have.

Paper, clay, linen and wood, all grown or reclaimed. We avoid anything that needs a new tree for every copy of a pattern.

We travel across the country and by sea. If the site is more than a day away, we send a sketch first and meet you in person for the plan.

Send one photograph of the room and what you want it to hold. We reply with two time slots for a visit, and most of our projects begin with a single conversation.
